The Mercer 3rd through 6th grades, along with Mrs. Benzel and Powers, took a field trip to Pence, WI, for the "Log a Load" logging demonstration, the 25th anniversary of the event.
The field trip included various activities related to logging. The students met loggers from Sappi who introduced them to various machines and techniques used in logging as well as tree identification information.
The group was able to see the machinery at work. They saw a log being cut down with a claw/saw contraption that did it within 10 seconds or so. The loggers used the machines to then take that log and turn it into pulp and eventually into paper. It was a great event, and the group learned much of the logging industry.
