Iron County Wisconsin supports April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, Iron County Human Services encourages all individuals and organizations to support child abuse and neglect prevention efforts in Wisconsin. We believe that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment. Children are the foundation of our society, our community and our future. 

This is a nationwide event and historically we have enjoyed the collaborations, partnerships and engaging with the community and youth. Due to COVID-19 and the safety measures put in place at all levels of government, we are unable to participate as we have in the past. Our goal continues to be raising awareness and increase community involvement. Historically our activities for Child Abuse Prevention Month were holding coloring contests for all students in Iron County Pre k- 5th grade and a poster contest for all students 6th grade -12th grade with the District Attorney, Sheriff and Chief of Police as the judges. Prizes were awarded to top finishers. The posters were laminated and decorated the halls of the Iron County Court House. Local Law Enforcement had a fantastic time serving free root beer floats to all students at Hurley K-12 School, Mercer K-12 School and Northwoods Christian Academy.

We understand that we all find ourselves in unprecedent times right now, and want to encourage the families and children in Iron County to still participate from the comfort of their homes. Friday April 3, 2020 is designated as “Wear Blue” to help promote Child Abuse Prevention month. Families can organize a family fun event – such as a family story night, game or movie night.
